Facebook Ads: Is your targeting appropriate?
Just a food for thought – What will happen to our lives if Facebook officials decide to close the platform like Orkut has… Shocked? Well we all know that it is not going to happen for sure and we are still going to be in touch with our near and dear ones on Facebook. The reason is simple. Let’s just admit that we all can’t imagine our lives without Facebook and it has become an addiction for majority of us. We wake up with it, have lunch with it and even sleep with it. When our mobile beeps, we immediately unlock our phones thinking it would be a Facebook notification. Don’t we?
Hence, many brands have realized the potential influence of this platform on our daily lives and have utilized it to their advantage. Daily, we see one or the other advertisement on our News Feed where in some company is trying to lure us with their attractive offers. Advertisers surely know how to catch the attention of their target audience. Kudos to them for properly following the step ‘A’ of AIDA (Attention-Interest-Desire-Action) model. But what about the second step? Are they successful in creating an ‘interest’ for their products through these ads? Well… many Facebook users have complained lately of being shown ads which are not at all related to them. It is not new that a 16 year old school girl sees an ad of anti-wrinkles cream on her News Feed. Does she even need that? A great job is done here by a marketer of catching her attention through that ad on which she chooses to laugh and scroll down further. Aren’t advertisers just dying for quantity attention rather than a quality one?
It is high time for them to understand the importance of a focused targeting and to choose those parameters while setting up an ad that meet their objective. They should try to minimize the spillovers and just concentrate on providing the best information to their target audience only, which will definitely result in less frustration of users, more engagement, website traffic and final sales.
